P.P. Namboodiri's
Traditional Ayurvedic Care Since 1945
The roots of Kerala Ayurveda Vaidyasala trace back to 1945, when Vaidya Pukkuzhi Purushothaman Namboodiri established the Vaidyasala with a deep devotion to the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda. Guided by traditional knowledge and a sincere commitment to healing, he created a place where classical Ayurvedic practice could serve the community with care and integrity.
Vaidya Purushothaman Namboodiri was a disciple of Kuttanchery Mooss, a renowned Ashtavaidyan, belonging to one of the eight traditional Ayurvedic physician families of Kerala who preserved and practiced classical Ayurveda for generations. Under this lineage of knowledge, he developed a deep understanding of Ayurvedic principles and traditional formulations.
He was also widely known as a Visha Vaidya — a physician skilled in the treatment of poison-related conditions, a specialised branch of Ayurveda that requires exceptional knowledge and experience. His reputation for dedication and healing made the Vaidyasala a trusted place for Ayurvedic care in the region.
In the years that followed, the Vaidyasala came under the care of Dr. P. M. Narayanan (D.A.M.), who continues to guide its work today. Under his stewardship, the Vaidyasala has remained rooted in its founding principles while continuing to serve generations of families with trusted Ayurvedic care.
For decades, Kerala Ayurveda Vaidyasala has stood as a quiet testament to tradition, dedication, and the enduring philosophy of Ayurveda — where knowledge is passed from one generation to the next, and care continues with the same sincerity with which it began.
The Vaidyas Carrying the Tradition Forward
Every treatment begins with a thorough nidana panchaka — a fivefold diagnostic process examining cause, pathogenesis, premonitory signs, symptoms, and differential diagnosis unique to each patient.
No two patients are treated identically. The vaidya assesses each person's prakriti — their inherent Vata, Pitta, and Kapha balance — before prescribing any medicine or guidance.
Our treatments are drawn from Charaka Samhita, Ashtanga Hridayam, and Sahasrayogam — classical Ayurvedic texts — not modern adaptations or commercial protocols.
We operate as a traditional outpatient vaidyasala. Patients receive personal consultation, in-house classical medicines, and follow-up guidance tailored to their daily routine.
Ayurveda is deeply aligned with nature's rhythms. We counsel patients on ritucharya — seasonal regimens that maintain balance as the external environment shifts through the year.
Many families who visit us have done so for two and three generations. Knowing a patient's family history across years is central to meaningful Ayurvedic care.
All medicines are prepared in-house under the direct supervision of our vaidyas, following formulations from classical Ayurvedic texts. No mass-manufactured substitute has ever been prescribed within these walls.
Decoctions prepared by boiling precise herb combinations in water until reduced to therapeutic concentration — the foundational medicine of classical Ayurveda.
Open Kashayam catalogue →Hand-rolled herbal tablets bound with natural agents, prepared using time-honoured proportions from Sahasrayogam and Ashtangahridayam.
Open Gulika catalogue →Medicated sesame oils processed with herb pastes and decoctions over sustained heat, for both internal and external applications.
Open Tailam catalogue →Semi-solid herbal confections made with jaggery, ghee, or honey — gentle on digestion and suitable for all ages.
Open Lehyam catalogue →Naturally fermented herbal preparations that preserve potency over time, valued for deeper absorption, stability, and classical therapeutic use.
Open Arishta Asava catalogue →Finely prepared herbal powders made from carefully cleaned, dried, and milled ingredients, used in internal formulations and adjunct therapies.
Open Churnam catalogue →Medicated ghee processed with decoctions and herbal pastes, revered in Ayurveda for carrying therapeutic qualities deep into tissues and systems.
Open Ghruta catalogue →Alongside classical Ayurvedic formulations, Kerala Ayurveda Vaidyasala also prepares proprietary medicines based on traditional yogas preserved within our family lineage. Many of these formulations trace their origins to generations of clinical experience and knowledge preserved in old Thaliyola manuscripts and the living tradition of Ayurvedic practice.
Our clinic has been guided by the founding family since 1945. This continuity ensures classical knowledge has not been diluted or replaced by commercial interests over the decades.
Every medicine dispensed is prepared within our own premises — fresh, authentic, and personally overseen by the vaidya who prescribes them.
Consultations are unhurried. The vaidya takes the time required to understand the person, not merely the symptom — inseparable from genuine Ayurvedic healing.
Our practice draws solely from authenticated classical texts — original Sanskrit formulations, measurement systems, and seasonal guidelines, not modernised derivatives.

Ayurveda understands every person through a unique constitutional pattern shaped by Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. This guided self-assessment helps visitors explore their natural tendencies in a calm, reflective way — not as a gimmick quiz, but as a thoughtful introduction to Ayurvedic self-understanding.
Instead of forcing people into a single type, this assessment reads the balance of all three Doshas and presents the top two constitutional influences. That means many visitors may discover patterns such as Vata–Pitta, Kapha–Vata, or a near tri-doshic tendency.
First consultations are usually conducted during morning hours and do not require prior appointment.
